Many Europeans, captivated by the beauty of an amazing flower, have devoted their whole lives to studying it. One of them was a native of Luxembourg, Jean Linden. In 1836, the Belgian government sent Linden, a student at the University of Brussels, on a scientific expedition to South America, from where he traveled to Cuba, Mexico and the United States in search of rare species. During the expedition, Linden transported more than a thousand different species of orchids to Europe. In October 1845, the young explorer returned to Brussels and, together with his brother Lucien, founded the nursery "International Gardening". Linden's invaluable knowledge of flowers and the places where they grew helped him create a unique orchid breeding enterprise. Together with Lucien, Jean Linden organized the monthly publication "Lindenia - the iconography of orchids". It was published for seventeen years and distributed by subscription. All the flowers in question were illustrated with color drawings made by the best botanical artists. Seventeen volumes, more than 800 illustrations! Some of them (about 250 illustrations) are presented to your attention in this book.
