Collecting currencies

How to make money on coins? Starting point of course is collecting currency that has value - collectible or old. Such coins invariably grow in value, which over the years increases by several times. Our company is always ready to help a numismatist (beginner and not only): on the site you will find both individual coins and entire thematic collections.

After all, there are many examples when collecting money becomes life’s work and the main business . It captivates, brings fame and material wealth. For example, David Doty, a Pennsylvania bank employee, became famous as a currency collector. He is traveling and collecting currencies of almost all countries in the world. The extensive collection contains unique and very expensive pieces that are rare even in their own countries, or unusual for the rest of the world.

For example, "banknotes" made of wood - a peculiar currency produced not so long ago. It may not have been very convenient to carry in a wallet, but it was with the help of this money that Germany recovered after the First World War. At that time, the country's economy was in crisis, and local authorities began to print the so-called notgeld ("emergency money") on a wide variety of materials - wood, aluminum foil, silk, and even playing cards. Such money was in use until the Reichsbank began to issue normal banknotes again. Then the Germans realized that in the future collectors would pay a lot for this non-standard money, so they began to withdraw such “banknotes” from circulation, replacing them with ordinary money.

One more example. In 1997 the new government of the Zaire state suddenly started collecting all the state currency that was in circulation. And no one could guess why it was done. Only when the same banknotes came back into circulation with the portrait of the deposed Joseph Mobuta removed, did it become clear that the government did not want to spend resources on printing new money. Subsequently, these banknotes were withdrawn from circulation and they took their place in the ranks of the collectible currency.

One of the most peculiar currencies was, for example, salt.

Even the English word “salary” comes from the Latin salarium - that is, the money that was given to ancient Roman soldiers to buy salt. Moreover, salt was used as the currency in the Middle Ages among the people who inhabited the Sahara desert, and was widely used as such in the East African region. The authenticity of this money was easily determined.. by licking it. And for change, it was usually broken into smaller pieces.

Other unusual edible currencies include balls of turmeric wrapped in coconut fibers (used in the Solomon Islands); cocoa, or cocoa beans, once widespread as money in what is now Mexico and in Central America. And moreover - Italian hard parmesan cheese Parmigiano Reggiano, which was valued so highly that it was used as currency. Italian banks accepted it as a deposit.

Of course, we do not suggest that you actively collect Parmesan cheese, such delicious currency is difficult to store for a long time. On a serious note, some well-known collectors have copies of ancient salt money. The currency of different countries and cultures existed and will not cease to exist. And the growing number of money collectors suggests that bonistics and numismatics will never lose their relevance.
