"Star of Siberia": a miniature bottle of alcohol on display on Violiti
Alcominimalists occupy a worthy place among the people involved in collecting. They enjoy collecting miniature bottles of drinks that contain alcohol. The first minions appeared in the 18th century. From huge barrels, sellers poured alcohol into tiny bottles for customers to taste the drink.
Minions began to spread actively in the 20th century. This is due to the introduction of prohibition in the United States. The restrictions did not affect containers with a small volume. A colossal number of minions with whiskey, wine and vodka were brought to America from all over the world in just a few months. They were distributed clandestinely in bars, restaurants and illegal card clubs.
In Germany, miniature containers were created for storing herbal liqueurs and medicinal tinctures. But people did not always acquire them for the purpose of ingestion. Many saw them as an aesthetic and decorative component.
In the 70s of the last century, specialized clubs for connoisseurs of alcohol appeared, which still exist today. For example, the Midwest Miniature Bottle Collectors club has exhibits from 15 countries.
The minions were brought to the Soviet Union in 1958. But alcohol was used only for its intended purpose. Only in 2005, Russian collectors founded a club of collectors of similar specimens. It was during this period that the term "alcominimalistics" arose.
