Aureus of Aurelian, Empire Restorer
Dear Readers! In one of our previous articles, we presented aureuses of Emperor Trajan Decius, sold on Violity, whose death in a battle with the Goths plunged the Roman Empire into deep crisis. Subsequently, its Western part separated from the empire, which formed the Gallic Empire and the Eastern (bordering on Sassanian Iran), and formed the Palmyra Empire. The rest of the empire was under constant attack from the Goths and other Germanic tribes.
The situation began to change under the Emperor Claudius of Gotha, who received his nickname for the defeat of the Goths, and especially under his cavalry commander Aurelian, who took the throne after the death of Claudius.
