Ukrainian artist Pavlo Makov represented our country at the 59th Venice Biennale, which started on April 20.

Project "Fountain of depletion. High Water ", created by the artist, symbolizes a single system of values of culture and art. But the main reference of the work is that the art and mentality of Ukraine and Russia are incompatible concepts that cannot be compared under any circumstances. Russian culture is being introduced to Ukraine through genocide, repression, violence and destruction.

According to Makov, artists should focus as much as possible on demonstrating the dignity and history of Ukraine to the world.

The audience saw the installation "Fountain" for the first time at the Pinchuk Art Center (Kyiv). In the original version, there was no water in the funnels of the fountain. Six months before the biennial, Paul decided to improve the project. Thus, the "Fountain of Exhaustion" turned into a pyramid consisting of 78 bronze funnels, which are located on different levels. After the start of the war, Maria Lanko (project curator) assisted in transporting the funnels from Kyiv. The Kyiv office of Forma was responsible for the architectural embodiment of Makov's idea through an Italian contractor.

The press conference of Makov and representatives of the Ukrainian pavilion began with a minute of silence in honor of the people who died at the hands of the Russian military.

"There is no sign of equality between the art of our country and the invader. One country is about identity and freedom. Another is about the dictator's ambitions, colonization and degradation, "the author said.

The artist drew the listeners' attention to the fact that Russia is destroying Ukrainian culture not only today. Hatred for Ukraine has been growing for centuries.

The curators summed up that global differences are also inherent in the Ukrainian and Russian value systems. The enemy is consciously trying to wipe out the cultural heritage of Ukraine. In the last 300 years, the Ukrainian people have been subjected to mass bullying by Russia in almost all spheres, and art is no exception.

Our site is always ready to please with the values of art. We have collected for you about 10 thousand lots in the section "Painting and graphics. Author's sculpture".
