The military aggression that Russia launched against Ukraine in 2014 turned into a real war in 2022, filled with suffering, pain and death. Numerous cultural monuments have been destroyed by the hands of the Rashists. Donetsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, Ivankiv Museum of Local History, Lugansk Historical Museum, Chernihiv Military History Museum, Kharkov Art Museum - this is an incomplete list of what the occupiers abused.

But these are not the first attacks on Ukrainian history and culture. Many crimes were committed by the Bolshevik troops. During the shelling of the left bank of the Dnieper (1918), they turned the architectural structures in the Pechersk region into ruins. The Bolsheviks did not spare even the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Sofievsky, Nikolsky military, Mikhailovsky cathedrals, as well as churches (Ilyinsky and Andreevsky) were among those destroyed. The building, where for 30 years a large collection of Vasily Krychevsky, a famous Ukrainian artist, was kept from the tan was damaged.

It turned out that the Bolshevik vandals destroyed collections of Ukrainian, Venetian and Bohemian glass, more than 120 unique Persian and Ukrainian carpets, ancient sets, many Western European and Ukrainian porcelain products. Barbarians abused portraits of legendary Ukrainian figures, church utensils, exclusive pieces of furniture, books and author's manuscripts.

When the Bolsheviks temporarily left Kyiv in March 1918, the government created a special commission of researchers headed by Fyodor Ernst, the inspector for the protection of material sights. The commission studied all damaged cultural heritage sites and recorded the data (including photographs) in written reports and protocols.

More than 100 years have passed and the situation is repeating itself. The outrages of the Russian invaders over the cultural heritage of Ukraine do not stop. The occupiers encroach on Ukrainian history again and again. But (like a century ago) we record everything. Nothing will go unnoticed. russia must remember: punishment for numerous crimes against the Ukrainian people cannot be avoided.
