The Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra, the winners of Eurovision 2022, are planning to put the won crystal figurine in the form of a microphone for a charity auction. The money from the sale of the prize will be donated to the APU support fund.
The performers have not yet decided on the choice of the place of sale. The group members are still analyzing proposals from Ukrainian and foreign sites. According to the leader of the group Oleg Psyuk, such an initiative will be useful for Ukraine. Also, at the moment it has not been decided what amount will be assigned for the start of sales.
Recall that the crystal microphone, which the Kalush Orchestra plans to put up for sale, is the main prize of the European television Eurovision contest, which has been awarded since 2008.
Why was the victory in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 so important for Ukraine?
In the conditions of war, every victory is important for Ukraine. A victory that will draw additional attention of the entire world community to the genocide of the Ukrainian people by the Russian Federation. Ukrainian performers, athletes, politicians, public figures and everyone who can be heard keep talking. And, despite the risk of disqualification, the Kalush Orchestra publicly recalled the tragedy of Mariupol and Azovstal. Today, such queries have become one of the most popular on Google. Residents of Europe and around the world monitor the news about the captured city and the factory where the wounded soldiers are.
As for where Eurovision 2023 will take place, the versions range from classic to the most unexpected. However, hopes do not leave that it will be in a restored and peaceful Ukraine. Perhaps it will be the city of Kalush, Ivano-Frankivsk region, or the liberated Ukrainian Mariupol. Among the proposals were Donetsk, Lvov, Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine.
Speaking of financing, we can recall the experience of 2017. The Government of Ukraine allocated UAH 430 million in guarantees, and UAH 455.7 million were also provided in the budget for 2017. Kyiv, as the winner of the competition for the right to host Eurovision-2017, was allocated about UAH 200 million. Such amounts could be enough to rebuild one destroyed Ukrainian city.
