We have repeatedly published articles on hryvnias of the KR period (monetary units) in our articles in the section
Collector's Handbook . Today we present a superbly preserved
the hryvnia of the times of Kievan Rus - an elite decoration of the 10-11th centuries, the name of such decorations was transferred to the monetary unit of the KR period. The hryvnia as an ornament is known long before the appearance of the hryvnia as a monetary unit. The first hryvnia appeared in the Middle East at the end of the Bronze Age. They are also known among the Scythians (the famous pectoral) and are especially characteristic of the Celtic culture. The first Celtic torcs, known as torves, have been known since the time of Hallstatt from the 6th century BC. became an integral decoration of the Celtic warriors and nobility during the La Tène period. Massive but elegant torcs made of precious metals are filled with many museums in Europe. The Celts (Gauls) occupied most of Western Europe, including the territory of Western Ukraine, which was given the name Galicia. Neck grivnas of the Zarubinets culture are known, which inherit Celtic traditions. The tradition was preserved in the early Middle Ages, so the beautiful hryvnias of Kievan Rus testify to the commonality of the cultural traditions of modern Ukraine and Western Europe. Masterpieces of jewelry art of the Middle Ages can be found in the corresponding section
