Untouched papyrus with chapters from the Book of the Dead, sarcophagi and figurines of the gods - a new find of Egyptian archaeologists

The cache became available to Egyptian researchers during excavations carried out on the territory of the archaeological site of Saqqara. A place located about 25 km south of the capital of Egypt. The study of the finds continues.

Among the finds were sarcophagi, bronze figurines of gods and the image of the ancient Egyptian sage, architect, astrologer of the period of the Ancient Kingdom of Imhotep. The discovered figurines depicted various gods and goddesses - Bastet, Anubis, Osiris, Isis, Nefertum and Hathor. Also, archaeologists managed to find mummies, which, after research, were attributed to about the 5th century BC.

Inside one of the sarcophagi was a papyrus, the length of which exceeded 9 meters. It was an intact document with chapters from the Book of the Dead.

Recall that Saqqara is a vast necropolis of the ancient Egyptian capital of Memphis. Its name comes from the name of the god of the dead, Sokar, who was considered, among other things, the patron saint of necropolises. Excavations in this part of Egypt took place constantly. The system of burial chambers in the vicinity of the Step Pyramid was first discovered in 1924.

The necropolis is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are more than a dozen pyramids, animal burial sites and ancient Coptic Christian monasteries.
