Creativity of Austrian masters: famous names and their works

Austria has always been a country directly associated with the dramatic arts and music. Suffice it to recall that Haydn, Schubert and Beethoven created their works in Vienna, the famous Mozart was born in Salzburg. The work of Austrian painters attracted no less attention.

The painting of the Austrian masters until the 18th century, in general trends, rarely separated from the works of German artists. Moreover, at that time, highly developed Bohemia was part of the Habsburg Empire. The dominant styles were the baroque, of which Johann-Michael Rottmayr and Franz Anton Maulberch were considered to be famous representatives.

The first half of the 19th century was the impetus for the growth of popularity in Europe of the portrait painting of Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller. Adalbert Stifter stood out for his landscapes, Hans Makart for historical canvases.

However, Austrian art gained worldwide fame at the turn of the 20th century. This was largely due to the activities of the Vienna Secession, which became the center of the so-called Riga Art Nouveau. The greatest Austrian artists of this period were Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. Each of these painters owns the discovery of a new direction in art. But in 1938 their work was persecuted.

Other masters of fine arts also enjoyed fame - Koloman Moser, Albin Egger-Linz, Franz Russ. The authorship of the latter belongs to portrait of a woman with a jug, purchased from the Violity website.

Among contemporary artists, the works of Gottfried Helnwein and Arnulf Reiner are of interest. The work of Friedensreich Hundertwasser is known for his use of abstract decorative compositions.
