A cache of 10th-century silver coins found in Finland
Coins from the Viking Age were found on the territory of the Finnish community of Munämäki. The objects of the find were local lovers of instrumental search, who notified representatives of the Museum Department about their discovery.
The find was a cache containing a total of 12 coins minted during the reign of the Viking King Harald Bluetooth. Also in the area of excavations carried out by representatives of the local Museum Department, later found small fragments of clay vessels of the Iron Age.
According to researchers, the place where the cache was located could have been inhabited. And the discovered coins came here from Poland. Although several similar coins have already been found in Finland before.
After detailed research, the field - the place where the cache was discovered - was entered into the register of antiquities. Further private excavations are now possible here only with the official permission of the Museum Department.
It was noted that objects from the Iron Age have been found in Mynämäki before.
The find was discovered in May. Now coins and fragments of clay vessels are part of the archaeological collection of the Museum Department.
