The paintings by People's Artist of Ukraine Yuriy Hertz radiate with festive magic. They are life-affirming, reveal the bright moments of life of the inhabitants of Transcarpathia - his native land, love for which has become the main source of inspiration. Adalbert Erdeli, Fyodor Manailo, Iosif Bokshay, who taught at the art school, where the young artist entered in 1947, helped Hertz to reveal his creative potential. After graduating from college, the painter followed in the footsteps of his teachers, getting a job as a teacher at a school in Khust.

Traveling through the cities and villages of Transcarpathia, Hertz made dozens of sketches. In particular, he is impressed by the ornaments of Easter eggs, embroidered shirts. For some time he works in the genre of realism, then moves away from the prose of life, begins to express his inner experiences, changing documentary objectivity to bright and warm images. Color comes to the fore, and only then does the form appear. The theme has remained unchanged for decades. In the 70s, he painted the paintings "Holy in Verkhovyna", "Verkhovyna Svyatkov" and other paintings that collect warm reviews from connoisseurs of art. 20 years have passed, Yuri Hertz continues to create enchanting scenes - “Christmas Fun”, “Christmas Day on Verkhovyna” appear. The artist turns to the distant past, listens to his feelings in order to convey what he experienced in childhood.

Hertz's works were presented at exhibitions outside of Ukraine: in Italy, USA, Germany, Canada. Important events in the modern Ukrainian cultural space were personal exhibitions in Uzhgorod and Kyiv in the 90s. Herz received his main title, People's Artist of Ukraine, in 2003. Researchers note the harmonious combination of folk art traditions with innovative elements that allowed balancing between reality and abstraction. Yuri Hertz's paintings have been repeatedly exhibited at Violity, where they were found by new owners. You will find works of Ukrainian and foreign masters of painting and graphics in this section.
