In our section dedicated to the gold coins of the ancient period, aureuses were mainly presented of the third century AD . This is due to the historical fact that the territory of Ukraine was the core of the proto-state of the Goths who successfully fought against Rome. But aureus of an earlier period, which are more common at world auctions, are found quite rarely on the territory of our country. The more valuable is the excellent aureus of Antoninus Pius , which served as an adornment in ancient times. Antoninus earned such a nickname Pius (pious) for his nobility and worthy deeds for the benefit of the empire. He was married to Faustina, only their daughter Faustina (youngest) survived of four children. He came from a noble family, occupied high positions, performing official duties with the highest degree of dignity. After the death of Emperor Hadrian, in the absence of heirs, he was proclaimed emperor. Having ascended the throne, he pursued a wise policy that led to the flourishing of the economy in the provinces, promoted the development of legal relations and reasonable reforms of laws. The course of the emperor's reign was peaceful, however, several campaigns are known, one of which was the conquest of southern Scotland.
