Antoninus earned such a nickname Pius (pious) for his nobility and worthy deeds for the benefit of the empire. He came from a noble family, occupied high positions, performing official duties with the highest degree of dignity. After the death of Emperor Hadrian, in the absence of heirs, he was proclaimed emperor. Having ascended the throne, he pursued a wise policy that led to the flourishing of the economy in the provinces, promoted the development of legal relations and reasonable reforms of laws.
