Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden Magdalena Andersson presented a copy of the letter of King Charles XII written in 1711 during her visit to Ukraine. She presented her gift to Vladimir Zelensky during a joint press conference with the Ukrainian head of state.
A copy of the letter was delivered from the Swedish National Archives. The documents were written in 1711 by King Charles XII in the Moldavian city of Bendery. The essence of the letter is to instruct the Swedish ambassador in Constantinople to work for the freedom of the Zaporozhian Sich as an independent state. The letter traces the support of the Ukrainian Cossacks, who should not suffer from tsarist repressions.
Andersson stressed that already in the 18th century, the king of Sweden was amazed at the strength of the democratic spirit of the inhabitants of the Ukrainian lands.
During a press conference, Volodymyr Zelenskyy quoted a part of the letter, which spoke about the speedy implementation of the article on the freedom of Ukraine and the Cossacks. The return of freedom of ownership of their land and former borders.
