Dear readers. In the times of Ancient Rome, the history of modern Ukraine was an organic part of the modern territory of Europe, and Roman coins found on the territory of our country constitute a significant part of the global corpus of such coins, in particular aureus . And today we present a very rare aureus of Emperor Hostillian . The history of his reign is inextricably linked with the events taking place in Ukraine at that time. By the middle of the 3rd century, the territory of our country was the core of the proto-state of the Goths, who challenged the Roman Empire by attacking its Danubian provinces. In the Battle of Abrita, Hostillian's father Trajan Decius and elder brother Herennius Etruscus perished. The young Hostillian, together with his mother Herenia Etruscilla, ruled the Roman Empire for several months in 251 until his death from illness. On the modern territory of Ukraine, the largest number of coins of the above-mentioned rulers of Rome was found. This is connected both with the gigantic trophies of the Goths, and with the subsequent payment of a ransom for the captured Romans. Masterpieces of ancient numismatics made of gold can be seen in this section .
