Today, January 1, marks the 114th anniversary of the birth of Stepan Bandera. A Ukrainian politician and a symbol of national resistance, this man became a hero for some, while for others his name acts like a red cloth on an angry bull. For many more years, disputes will continue around an outstanding and memorable personality. Monuments to Bandera have been erected in dozens of cities in Ukraine, streets are named after him not only in our country, but also abroad: in Los Angeles and Houston (USA). In any case, he left a noticeable mark in history and culture. Today, more and more collectibles in Ukraine are dedicated to one of the most famous leaders of Ukrainian nationalists.
Long before the collapse of the Soviet Union, in 1960 the Underground Post of Ukraine issued a posthumous block of stamps with a face value of 25 steps from the cycle “Glory to the Heroes” in honor of Stepan Bandera, and a few years later issued a Pro Patria block. In 2009, for the anniversary of the Ukrainian hero, Ukrposhta issued a stamp with a face value of 1 hryvnia, with a circulation of 220,000 copies. It can often be found on sale.
But there are no coins with a portrait of a fighter for independence yet, one can only hope that they will appear soon. But numismatists know souvenir desktop medals. Most of all questions are caused by a medal with an error: the year of birth is incorrectly indicated - 1908. According to one of the versions, the circulation was issued back in Soviet times. On another medal without a date and with only one inscription, you can see not the politician himself, but a monument in honor of him.
In the field of phaleristics, there are a large number of badges and awards with a portrait of Stepan Bandera. Along with inexpensive modern plastic items, you can find interesting commemorative badges from half a century ago, issued in Germany.
