Medal "For labors for the liberation of the peasants" - an award that speaks for itself

Medal "For labors for the liberation of the peasants" - an award that speaks for itself
The medal, established in 1861, marked the implementation of the peasant reform on the territory of the Russian Empire.
Gold medals were awarded to governors and governors-general, senior officials. Silver - the rulers of the offices, members, candidates and clerks of the noble committees. Such medals were awarded until 1875. A total of 1,500 silver and 250 gold medals were minted.
Starting from August 1898, the wearing of the medal "For labors for the liberation of the peasants" became hereditary. However, only senior male heirs in a straight line could exercise this right. If there were none, then the medal was left for storage in the family of the recipient.
There were also cases of acquiring additional medals at their own expense. For example, members of the State Councils could have several of these awards to wear with different uniforms. In the spring of 1861, an additional 12 gold and 20 silver medals were minted.
The order of wearing the award was also special. The medal was worn on the chest, fastened with an eyelet to a block or an Alexander ribbon. According to a separate order, the descendants of awarded officials were to wear a medal on their chest, somewhat to the right of the medal "In memory of the reign of Emperor Alexander III."
