Today, February 23, the National Bank of Ukraine issued a new commemorative banknote “Remembrance! Let's not get through!" Prepared for the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the 20-hryvnia collector's novelty is dedicated to the heroic resistance and fortitude of our people. As the head of the NBU, Andrey Pyshny, noted, the war has been fought for centuries, and the commemorative banknote is a reminder of the long-term struggle for independence.
Despite the unusual design, the banknote can be used as legal tender. Unlike other bills, the new twenty has a vertical orientation. The circulation is relatively small - only 300 thousand copies, of which 200 thousand are in special packaging, another 100 thousand are in envelopes. Further printing of banknotes is expected.
The front side depicts Ukrainian servicemen who set the flag of Ukraine. The drawing is based on a photograph by photographer Alexander Smirnov. At the very top is a text in Ukrainian and English about the invasion and the people's war for sovereignty. The reverse side depicts tied hands, symbolizing the suffering that the occupation regime brought with it. Above is a poppy - a symbol of the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, and at the very top - a wreath of thorns against the backdrop of dilapidated buildings. A few more poppies at the bottom of the banknote resemble bullet wounds. The banknote is protected by watermarks, microtexts and elements visible using ultraviolet and infrared rays, OVI and SPARK elements.
