How 13-year-old Katherine Beaumont became Disney's Alice

How 13-year-old Katherine Beaumont became Disney's Alice
British actress Catherine Beaumont, who starred in just a few films, became famous thanks to two cartoons. In 1951, she voiced the main character of Alice in Wonderland, and in 1953, Wendy Darling spoke in her voice in the cartoon Peter Pan. Here we will talk about the first project.
Walt Disney began work on the adaptation of Lewis Carroll's fairy tale in 1949, immediately starting to search for the perfect voice for Alice. He wanted to find a girl who would speak good English for the British audience, but without a specific accent, so as not to scare the American audience. Kathryn Beaumont, who arrived in the US under a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, was the perfect fit.
The 13-year-old actress participated in the filming of some scenes, which were later completely redrawn. These shots were inspired by the cartoonists to bring the character to life. During filming, the team did not make any special backgrounds, some of the props were ordinary boxes and boards. Based on the movements and poses, the artists created a series of sketches, and then full-fledged drawings.
Katherine Beaumont's film career did not last long. After the release of "Peter Pan" in 1953, she graduated from high school, trained as a teacher and until 1997 taught at an elementary school in Los Angeles.
