Two numismatic novelties in one day. On February 28, the National Bank of Ukraine presented commemorative medals dedicated to the cities of the heroes of Okhtyrka and Volnovasy.
The obverse of the "City of Heroes — Okhtyrka" medal is decorated with a small National Coat of Arms of Ukraine on the background of a stylized irradiated sun with lightning, under which a bird is a symbol of liberation and the inscription: Ukraine Okhtyrka. In the lower part there is an image of a city undergoing enemy bombing, on the right - a trace of a rocket hitting the city council building, on the left - a residential building, behind which a child is playing.
The reverse shows a stylized composition that symbolically represents the present through the prism of "Tiger", which asserts courage and the ability to win. This is a Ukrainian defender who is repulsed by the attacks of "predators" and the inscriptions: "The brave always have happiness."
As for the second medal, the obverse "City of Heroes — Volnovakha" has the inscription "Ukraine" and a small State Coat of Arms of Ukraine. It is noteworthy that in the word "Volnovakha" the letter "n" is replaced by a fragment of a railway track, which symbolizes the city's desire to return home to Ukraine. There are also stylized fragments of maps of Donetsk and Mariupol.
The reverse is decorated with the image of a Ukrainian military man and stylized elements of the city coat of arms. The depicted bird in flight symbolizes confidence in the liberation of the city.
The website of the National Bank of Ukraine states that the circulation of the medals is 100,000 pieces.
