Mark Twain's typewriter sold at auction for $106,250
Mark Twain would never have thought that his Williams No. 6 is going to be so valuable, but it recently sold for $106,250 at an auction of historical manuscripts.

Mark Twain, real name Samuel Clemens, bought this typewriter in 1908 and owned it until his death in 1910. However, despite the fact that Twain used a typewriter, leaving traces of his talent on her, he did not show her any respect. On the contrary, he is known for his dislike of typewriters, which, he said, were "full of whims and defects - diabolical".

In a letter sent to the Remington Company in 1875, he categorically refused to give his name and asked the company not to disclose the fact that he had a car. He stated that he stopped using this device because he constantly received requests in response to his letters to tell about his work on a typewriter.
Ultimately, Mark Twain handed over Williams No. 6 to her daughter Clara, she sold it in the early 1920s.

According to Sandra Palomino, Director of Historical Manuscripts at Heritage Auctions:
"The growing demand for Mark Twain's typewriter is more than understandable. He was one of the most beloved of all American writers, and the idea that he wrote on this typewriter clearly explains
why so many purists and collectors of antiques seek to acquire this artifact for their collections."
