The Liverpool sculpture of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr looks a bit altered. It is decorated with Ukrainian national dress. And they did it for a special BBC film that will be broadcast as part of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
The countdown to the event is just days away, and work is currently underway to prepare the city's M&S Bank Arena for the competition. Apparently, the organizers decided to start with this "disguise" in order to emphasize that music cannot remain outside of politics.
As always, the final of the song contest will be broadcast live on television to millions of viewers worldwide and for the first time in cinemas across the UK. Liverpool will take over on May 13, after two semi-finals earlier in the week.
It is worth reminding that the competition will be held in Liverpool after that year's British participant Sam Ryder took second place after the Ukrainian Kalush Orchestra.
As Russia's invasion of Ukraine prevented the winning country from hosting the competition in 2023, organizers said the UK would stage the show on their behalf instead.
