And it won't crumble? The book that was taken 96 years ago was returned to the library

And it won't crumble? The book that was taken 96 years ago was returned to the library
The beginning of this story resembles a joke in some places. A person took a book and forgot it for 96 years. But this is a real situation that happened to a resident of California. Jim Perry was sorting through his wife's old things and came across a book that had been borrowed from the library in 1927.

While sorting through old things, the American found a copy of Benson Lossing's "History of the United States of America". According to the husband, it was borrowed by his late wife's grandfather.
The man, without thinking long, decided to return the book to the St. Helena library. However, he was initially confused by the fact that he would have to pay a significant amount for it. After all, at the time of the rental, his wife's grandfather already had to pay 5 cents. After all, he overdue the return of the book to the library. Thus, the total amount of payment for 96 years was $1,756. But interestingly, the library administration canceled this debt back in 2019.
When the book did end up in the library, its employees were afraid to touch it. After all, she almost crumbled from her "age". It was the first time in history that a book was overdue. Especially for so much.

A copy of Benson Lossing's History of the United States now graces the library's central entrance. It was decided to "hide" it under the glass as a reminder of what can happen to the book if it is not returned in time.
