Nearly 40 pre-Columbian artifacts found in Peru

Nearly 40 pre-Columbian artifacts found in Peru
During excavations in Peru, in the area of the archaeological site known as Ñusta Hispana, researchers discovered 38 artifacts from the pre-Columbian period. Near the ancient sanctuary, bracelets, ceremonial knives, pendants, a ring, bowls and other items were taken out of the ground. The elaborate ceremonial decorations may have belonged to the inhabitants of Cusco, a city in southeastern Peru.
All finds have been preserved in excellent condition. They will soon be mothballed at the Office of Sample Elements and Collections of the DDC. Scientists have yet to establish the exact composition of the metals, the dating of the artifacts, and their purpose. Excavations at this site will continue for several more months, so the number of finds may soon increase.
The Ñusta Hispana is located in the Vilcabamba area and is also known as Chuquipalta. This place was discovered by the American archaeologist and politician Hiram Bingham, who in 1911 discovered Machu Picchu and the Vitkos Palace. In Ñusta Hispana there is a monumental sculptural sanctuary of Yurac Rumi ("White Rock"), used by the Incas during religious holidays.
