Football and numismatics: Germany will issue a coin with a face value of 11 euros
In 2024, the 17th European Football Championship will be held in Germany. For this event, Germany will issue a collector's coin with a face value of 11 euros. The novelty will go on sale next year, probably in May.
A coin with a diameter of 30 mm and a weight of 14 g will be minted from silver, copies will be available as uncirculated and proof. Two artists worked on the design: Detlef Behr depicted on the obverse the ball in the center of the football field and surrounded by flags; Lorenz Crössmann is the author of the reverse with a German eagle, which indicates the year of issue, denomination and material (500 silver).
The nominal value corresponds to the number of players of one full-fledged team on the field. The inscription on the obverse "Finale Berlin" makes it clear that the author depicted the "Olympic Stadium" (Olympiastadion) in Berlin, where some matches will be played, including the final of the European Championship. The stadium was built in 1936, in time for the XI Summer Olympic Games in Germany.
