In the northern region of Peru, during excavations of the royal necropolis of Castillo de Huarmey, researchers found tombs in which representatives of the wari culture were buried. The Huari Indians lived in the Central Andes and on the coast of modern Peru in the 6th-11th centuries. This civilization mastered terraced agriculture, and also built roads, which later became important for the Inca state.
The tombs are made of adobe bricks, in total 7 graves were counted: the remains belong to two adult men, two women, the remaining three were teenagers. Judging by the large number of tools and materials that were placed with the dead, these people were artisans. Among the artifacts found were wooden objects, painted leather, textiles, as well as headdresses and gold jewelry with semi-precious stones.
The results of the research showed that one of the men was about forty years old, he died 1300 years ago. Most likely, his main activity was basket weaving. His body was wrapped in cloth, knives, saws and rods were placed nearby, from which he wove baskets.
All these discoveries once again confirm that the Castillo de Huarmey was an important administrative and craft center. Previously, large burials with rulers and aristocrats have already been found here. The Huari artisans were not mere artists - the discovered jewels indicate their belonging to the elite.
