'M*A*S*H' Hokaiya's Token and Boots sold for $125,000
When the story of the magnificent combat doctor and merry fellow Hokai Pierce left the TV screens, she did not leave the hearts of the audience. And as it turned out, some of the important artifacts of this unforgettable saga found new owners - and all this for the sake of the science of communication.
The iconic boots and dog tag worn by Alan Alda as Hokai in the cult television series M*A*S*H went under the hammer on June 28 at Heritage Auctions for a whopping $125,000. However, this story is not only about memories of the show and its colorful characters. All proceeds go to support the Alan Ald University Center for the Science of Communication at Stony Brook.

When 36-year-old Alan Alda first stepped onto the site of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (M*A*S*H) in 1972 , he received his simple combat boots and dog tag. These items stayed with him throughout his 256-episode journey through the world of military medicine and humanity.
Decades after the "M*A*S*H" finale, Alan Alda continues his mission to not only entertain but also educate. The Alan Ald Center for Science Communication at Stony Brook University, founded 14 years ago with the university and the Faculty of Communication and Journalism, has become a platform for bringing together the scientific community and the public. It develops methods to communicate complex concepts to a wide audience in an interesting and accessible way.

Let me remind you that the series with 14 Emmy awards not only became a symbol of the power of connection, but also went down in history as the most viewed and rated episode of American television at that time. The series that ended the saga "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen" attracted 125 million viewers.
