Nine-year-old schoolboy discovers 1800-year-old Roman coin in Bremen
A boy named Bjarne accidentally discovered the coin while playing in the playground with classmates after school on a summer day. The coin he found turned out to be a denarius from the reign of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, who reigned from 161 to 180 AD.
"For Bremen, this discovery is of great importance. The coin is not only a historically valuable artifact, but also unique because of its origin. Very rarely finds of this type can be found outside the territories that belonged to the Roman Empire." - shared Uta Halle, head of the Bremen Archaeological Office.
