2,800-year-old Poseidon figurines found in Greece

2,800-year-old Poseidon figurines found in Greece
Excavations of an ancient temple aged 2,800 years, in a sanctuary dedicated to the god of the seas Poseidon, led to the discovery of many unique artifacts.

Among the finds is a bronze figurine depicting a dog, as well as a clay figurine of a woman.
But perhaps the most mysterious artifact is the head of a snake, made of bronze, and a clay wing, which, according to the assumption, could be part of a sphinx or a mermaid. In addition to this, part of a golden necklace was found.
Archaeologists have devoted more than 20 years to excavations in the ancient city of Elikis (Gelika) on the northern coast of the Peloponnese. The discovery of this sanctuary and its association with Poseidon is confirmed by both archaeological finds and ancient texts mentioning the existence of this place of worship.
