Featuring servo control and lighting effects, the Red Leader starfighter was created by the team at Industrial Light & Magic, which won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects in a Star Wars movie.

This scale miniature model is one of four heroic shooting miniatures equipped with servos that could extend into an "attack mode". The model was made from resin, vacuum-formed sterol, acrylic and metal components on aluminum internal fittings.

She was professionally painted and finished like a battleship with signs of wear, gunshot marks and burns around the nozzles. The upper two wings were each painted with a single red stripe, identifying it as the "Red Leader".

There is a miniature pilot in the cockpit and an R2 unit canopy mounted behind the cockpit. The miniature has internal wiring to illuminate the laser cannons on each of the four wings, using optical fibers to illuminate the tips of each cannon. Each laser gun has metal heat sinks to remove excess heat generated from the backlight.

In addition, halogen lamps are installed in each of the two torpedo tubes mounted on the sides of the fuselage, and halogen lamps are installed in each of the four engine nozzles. Special metal heat sinks with integrated cooling ducts are built into the model to force cool air through the system and prevent overheating.

This Red Leader X-wing Starfighter miniature starts at 400 000$ and with buyer's fee (BP) is 495 000$.
