Unusual smuggling attempt: 68-year-old woman covered herself with coins worth 1.5 million zlotys
Customs officers in the village of Hrebenne prevented an unusual smuggling attempt. A woman, returning from Lviv, hid more than 600 Polish coins under her clothes.
It turned out that they have not only material value, but also historical value. The forensic expert estimated that all the coins were made of gold and their value was close to 1.5 million zlotys. Most of the coins date back to the 19th and 20th centuries. These include the crowns of the Kingdom of Hungary, the French, Belgian and Swiss francs, the Austrian crowns and the British sovereigns.
The woman voluntarily admitted to attempting to smuggle and filed a statement of voluntary responsibility. She explained that she purchased numismatics in Lviv from her friend.
She had to pay a fine of 50 thousand zlotys and cover the costs of the examination, including the opinion of an expert. The coins that made up the gold jewelry were returned to her.
