Preserving the legacy: the Vasyl Stus Center digitized the creative archive of the Ukrainian poet and human rights activist
Soon, a new section is planned to be launched on the "Stus. Center" website, which will help everyone who wants to get access to the unique materials of the creative heritage of Vasyl Stus.

Vasyl Semenovych Stus is a Ukrainian sixties poet, prose writer, publicist, literary critic. He was one of the most active representatives of the Ukrainian dissident movement.

Vasyl Semenovych's poems, filled with deep insight and lyrical beauty, often explored the themes of freedom, identity, and the human spirit. But Stus was not just a poet; he was also a fearless defender of human rights, which eventually led to his unjust imprisonment by the Soviet authorities.
The imprisonment and subsequent death of Stus in a labor camp is a testament to his steadfast commitment to the principles he espoused. Despite harsh conditions and isolation, he continued to write and speak out against oppression, leaving behind a courage and resilience that continues to inspire Ukrainians today.

Stus's creative archive is a treasure trove of his works, including poetry, essays, and personal correspondence. It provides valuable information about his thoughts, struggles and the cultural and political context in which he lived.

With the help of a grant from the SDK ("Old Town House of Culture") and the Warsaw government, it was possible to digitize and describe 26,000 scans of the creative archive of the Ukrainian poet and human rights activist.
Digital transformation of printed and handwritten materials is a powerful modern tool. The decision of the "Vasyl Stus Center" to digitize the creative archive of the outstanding poet and human rights defender is evidence of dedication to preserving the cultural heritage of Ukraine and honoring the memory of Vasyl Semenovych.

This initiative ensures that future generations will have the opportunity to engage with Stus's work and continue to draw inspiration from his life's work.
