Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR: Silver Arrow on the track

Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR: Silver Arrow on the track
The Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR is not just a car, it is a work of art born on the track and destined to conquer the streets.
The seventh of just 20 examples built by the AMG Special Vehicle Construction Office and HWA AG, it is the epitome of luxurious, sporty design and technology.
Delivered new to Switzerland and acquired by the current owner in April 2021, it is a true collector's item.
Only 20 coupes were produced between 1998 and 1999, and today they are considered among the most sought-after cars in the world.
This car, with less than 7,015 km on the clock at the time of cataloging, is one of only three to feature tartan gabardine upholstery, harking back to Sir Stirling Moss's Mille Miglia victory in the 300 SLR.
Its Iridium Silver Metallic paint and blue-gray tartan upholstery are clear references to Mercedes-Benz's rich racing history.
The CLK GTR's homologation process proceeded in exactly the opposite direction to that of its McLaren F1 competitor.
AMG created more than just road-going versions of racing cars. The CLK GTR's monocoque frame is made from carbon fiber, using the same components as its racing brother.
Road versions produced from the summer of 1998 received minimal changes: air conditioning, anti-lock brakes, leather upholstery, an integrated rear spoiler, sound insulation and a pair of pocket compartments.
However, the engine of the road versions is different - a 623-horsepower 6.9-liter V-12, which is also known as the “heart” of Pagani cars.
The CLK GTR handles like a real race car on the streets. Featuring a six-speed sequential transmission and a V-12 engine at the heart of the car, it delivers lightning-fast shifts and an ominous sound.
Completed on April 27, 1999, this CLK GTR was delivered to Switzerland, then hidden away in a German collection until 2017 when it was purchased by the previous owner.
Having undergone a full service and over $71,000 worth of modifications in 2021, the car continues to turn heads, competing in renowned events such as the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance and Lime Rock Historics.
Today, as HWA AG celebrates its 25th anniversary, the CLK GTR remains the pinnacle of engineering and an important model in the history of the legendary Silver Arrows line. Prospective owners should appreciate not only its uniqueness and history, but also the unrivaled opportunities it provides.
The CLK GTR is more than just a car; this is history, sound, and road, combined into a single whole, creating a unique image.
