Ukrainian art triumphs: Ivan Marchuk's masterpiece sold at Sotheby's auction for €76,000

The painting by the legendary Ukrainian artist Ivan Marchuk "Here Calm Dwells" was recently sold at Sotheby's auction for €76,000. This significant event not only emphasizes the recognition of Ukrainian artists on the world stage, but also the enduring value of Marchuk's unique artistic vision.

The landscape, created in 1982, has been in a private collection in the United States for a long time. The price of the painting at the auction exceeded the established estimate of €40,000 — €60,000 by almost 30%.

The value of this sale goes beyond monetary value; it symbolizes the world recognition of Ukrainian art and the growing demand for the works of famous Ukrainian artists. Marchuk's ability to evoke emotions with the help of complex brushstrokes and bright compositions arouses great interest among art connoisseurs from all over the world.

Despite the fact that the new owner of Marchuk's work is unknown, the artist hopes that his "child" will have a happy fate.

People's Artist of Ukraine, laureate of the National Prize of Ukraine named after Taras Shevchenko is known for his innovative approach to art. With a career spanning more than six decades, Marchuk has become a prominent figure on the Ukrainian art scene and is recognized as a pioneer in contemporary art worldwide. The artist from Ternopil region is the founder of the technique of plontanism, or layering of small lines, from which a unique composition of color and light is built. His paintings are characterized by a fusion of traditional and avant-garde elements, creating a special style.

The artist's work includes approximately 5,000 works. He held more than 150 personal and about 50 collective exhibitions. In 2007, he was included in the rating of "100 geniuses of our time" by the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph.

Marchuk's success at the Sotheby's auction will likely inspire a new generation of Ukrainian artists, give them confidence in realizing their artistic visions and share their unique perspectives with the world. The world stage is increasingly recognizing the cultural significance and artistic brilliance that Ukraine has to offer.
