The story of an American construction worker who found a magazine about Superman in the wall

The story of an American construction worker who found a magazine about Superman in the wall
In 2013, 44-year-old David Gonzalez from Minnesota had a unique opportunity to find something special while renovating his home. While dismantling the wall, he found a rare Action Comics #1 from DC Comics, published in 1938, with a cover featuring Superman.

However, the joy of finding a rarity quickly turned into a bitter reality due to carelessness. While trying to retrieve the comic book from under the rubble of the wall, Gonzalez damaged the cover by tearing it. This happened due to the fact that the comic was placed on the wall in such a way that it was under pressure from other newspapers and magazines. A sharp movement by Gonzalez led to a tear in the cover.
Experts who studied the condition of the comic after the damage to the cover reduced its rating to 1.5 points, where 10 is the maximum rating. They noted that the comic could have received about 3 points, given its rarity and historical value. And cost twice as much as you can currently get for it.

Although González himself admitted that the mistake was due to his carelessness, he tried to correct his mistake by contacting specialists for restoration. However, it was too late, and now the value of the comic has significantly decreased.
David Gonzalez managed to sell the magazine for $175,000. However, this amount would have been double if the cover of the comic had not been damaged.

Such stories remind us that sometimes valuable objects from the past can be found in the most unexpected places.
