The picture, which was accidentally bought in a damp cardboard box at a sale, later turned out to be a masterpiece of an outstanding artist who worked in the 60s and 70s of the 20th century. It is about the work of Benny Andrews.

This painting was purchased by a father and son from the UK during a sale for $45. It was a cardboard box, in which buyers did not even look. But later they still decided to deal with their purchase, and turned to Antiques Roadshow - a popular British TV show about antiques - for help.
After studying the work of art, expert Nigel Freeman noted that it is the work of the outstanding artist Benny Andrews of the 20th century. Having added that such early works, even on a board, are exhibited at auctions quite rarely. Therefore, the current owners can profitably sell the painting, which depicts a woman in a yellow dress. According to Andrews, its estimated price could be around $10,000.

It should be noted that the African-American artist, activist and educator Benny Andrews was born in the United States in 1930. In 1958, he received a bachelor's degree in painting from the Art Institute of Chicago, and later moved to New York. He created, was engaged in teaching and public activities almost until his death in 2006.

Benny Andrews was a figurative expressionist artist whose works dealt with various themes of suffering and injustice, including the Holocaust, the forced migration of Native Americans, and Hurricane Katrina. In the 1960s, he began to find his style of painting, which developed in parallel with the flourishing of collage.

Currently, the artist's works are stored in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, etc.
