Defenders or archaeologists? Ukrainian military accidentally came across Late Bronze Age ceramics while digging a dugout
On December 6, Ukraine celebrates the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. And on this day, of course, I want to talk about our defenders. However, they not only bravely defend Ukraine from the enemy, but also help find ancient artifacts. While digging a dugout, our defenders in the East managed to unearth pottery from the Late Bronze Age.

Historian and Kyiv guide Anna Lavrus told this story on her Facebook page. Her husband, together with his brothers, came across the remains of human bones while digging the dugout. Unfortunately, this is a frequent find for places of battles throughout the territory of Ukraine. Therefore, everyone thought that this person died in the war.

However, after taking a closer look, they realized that the skeleton was ancient. Probably, during the Second World War. If not later. This forced them to stop work and call in specialists.
The scientists who came to the site of the discovery discovered ceramics in addition to the skeletons. The drawings on the objects suggested that these are pots of the Late Bronze Age. A day later, another burial was found – a couple, a man, and a woman. Next to the spouses there was interesting burial equipment, the woman had a unique copper ornament.

It remains to wait for the final conclusions of archaeologists regarding the found objects and remains of human bones. As for the military, I would like to wish them to return to their families and work as soon as possible. Perhaps one of them will think about helping archaeologists in the future.
