German Beauty: Porcelain Figurines by Wallendorfer Porzellan
Tea, coffee sets and cute figurines are the two main directions of the German company Wallendorfer Porzellan, which has been producing porcelain products for two and a half centuries. The company was founded by Johan Hammann in 1764, asking the Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld to obtain a concession for the manufacture of porcelain. Hammann opened a manufactory in Wallendorf (Thuringia), almost 50 years after Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus and Johann Friedrich Böttger invented European porcelain.
At first, all products were made from local raw materials, and the items were not as white and bright as we would like. Then it was decided to buy Bohemian kaolin, thanks to which the works became truly snow-white. At first it was exclusively handmade dishes, and in 1785 the assortment expanded dramatically, and figurines appeared.
For many years Wallendorfer Porzellan was owned by the Hammann family, until in 1833 the company passed into the hands of new owners. Since then, the owners have changed frequently, and this is reflected in the economic condition of the company and the quality of products: Wallendorfer Porzellan has had ups and downs, successful years and periods of stagnation. The constant change of owners also affected the brand, and this, in turn, led to trademark imitations and fakes. The last option - the Latin letter W with the year of foundation under it - appeared half a century ago, in 1964.
Although Wallendorfer Porzellan has produced a large number of services, figurines are in great demand at Violity - there are dozens of them on the site. Several hundred figurines have been sold in the last three years. Here is some of them.
