Like many of the leading automakers of the early 20th century, Bugatti capitalized on its competitive success. In the case of the car that Bugatti introduced in 1932, success was guaranteed.
It was a direct descendant of the Type 51 racing car and was also powered by a 2.3 liter engine. And the sporty body, often with an open top, further emphasized the racing roots of the model.
Only 38 Bugatti Type 55 Roadsters were produced in 1932, and no two of them are the same – each has differences in design details. This is probably because the stylist Jean Bugatti, the son of the founder of the French brand, became the author of the body design.
As for this 1932 Bugatti Type 55 Roadster, which was auctioned in France by RM Sotheby's, it was built for a Swiss businessman, and its interior is trimmed with leather and wood.
For all its considerable age, the roadster has repeatedly changed owners, conquered racetracks in Luxembourg, Belgium, Great Britain and the USA. In 2008, it underwent a complete restoration.
And now a new owner is waiting for him, only the car does not yet know which one.
