A unique artifact or a fake? The medieval sword, which was examined at the request of the visitor, surprised the museum staff
Are you interested in debunking myths? Stories that you look at from a completely different angle after certain intervals? Then you will read with delight about this sword, which for a long time was considered a high-quality fake.

The artifact, which was found in the 1930s on the banks of the Danube, has been in the Philadelphia Museum of Natural History in Chicago for almost 100 years. And all these 100 years, it was believed that visitors enjoy replicas of ancient weapons. But one day it was decided to study it further. One visitor suggested that the bronze weapon was an authentic sword made three thousand years ago.
After this enigmatic visitor approached museum curator William Parkinson, an X-ray study was conducted to determine the exact composition of the bronze from which this sword was forged. And it turned out that the "material of manufacture" corresponds to that from which other products were forged on the territory of Europe in the Bronze Age.

Usually the opposite happens: an object that is considered original turns out to be a fake. But not in this situation.

The assumption of the visitor of the exhibition initially led to an X-ray examination. And later he concluded that the sword was left in the waters of the Danube somewhere between 1080 and 900 BC. Researchers assume that this indicates a ritual component. Probably, this is how its owner wanted to show that the battle was over or the life of a loved one was over.
This is how a random guess turned a seemingly replica into the main exhibit of the "First Kings of Europe" exhibition.
