Research staff of the Kherson Art Museum identified another painting from the museum collection, which belongs to an unknown artist. This "Seascape" was stolen in November 2022.
The canvas of the unknown artist from 1907 was recognized in a photograph from the Central Museum of Tavrida (Simferopol). This information was provided by the head of the information and mass department of the Kherson Regional Museum named after O. Shovkunenko, Larisa Zharkyh.
Since only a fragment of the painting is present in the picture, the identification process took a long time. In addition, the picture was located at an angle. However, modern technologies have helped with the definition. In addition, the frame is exactly the one that was once in the picture.
Before the start of restoration work in the Kherson Museum, "Seascape" was exhibited in the concert hall. However, at the beginning of November, the landscape was taken out and was photographed in the Simferopol Museum. The current location of the painting is unknown.
The collection of the Kherson Museum included more than 13,000 exhibits. Paintings by Ukrainian and foreign authors: paintings, graphics, icons, tapestries, household objects and works of folk art.
Unfortunately, this is far from the first case of removal of museum exhibits. But the confidence that all the exhibits will return to their places does not disappear.
