Two-faced figures: unique drawings discovered in Peru

Two-faced figures: unique drawings discovered in Peru
One of the latest archaeological finds in the architectural complex of Panyamarca (Peru) was of particular interest to scientists. The researchers found two drawings depicting two-faced human figures in brightly colored clothes and headdresses. One person is holding a goblet with four birds and a fan of feathers, another is holding a similar fan and an unidentified long object.
In the art of the Moche culture, which existed in Peru during the 1st-8th centuries, scientists have not yet seen such images. There are no elements typical of local deities, such as fangs, claws, tails and wings. The artist probably explored the possibilities of fine art by trying to draw a masked human head in a fast side-to-side motion, which creates a blur effect.
The Panyamarka complex was founded around 550, it is replete with drawings on which you can see fragments of Moche rituals, their way of life, and clothes. However, much is still hidden from prying eyes. It is believed that since the discovery of the first images in 1958, no more than 10% of the wall paintings have been discovered. These and other finds indicate that Panyamarca is the place where the Moche actively rethought artistic canons and boldly improved their art.
