The first coins with the portrait of King Charles III will go into circulation in December
The Royal Mint of Great Britain has unveiled a coin design featuring the current monarch, Charles III. The release of the numismatic novelty is scheduled for December 2022.

British sculptor Martin Jennings worked on the design of the new 50p coins. The new king of the United Kingdom and 14 countries of the Commonwealth of Nations is depicted without a crown. And, in accordance with tradition, the profile of the monarch is turned to the left. The edges of the coin should be decorated with the inscription "King Charles III, by the grace of God, defender of the faith" in Latin.
It is worth recalling that the profile of Elizabeth II, who had previously ruled for a record 70 years and seven months in British history, was turned to the right, and her father, King George VI, to the left.

According to the Royal Mint, coins with the image of Elizabeth II will remain in circulation along with the coins of the new king. Now about 27 billion coins “rotate” in the country.

Coins and banknotes depicting British monarchs will be in joint circulation. This will happen in those countries, the head of which formally remains King Charles III.
Bills with a portrait of Elizabeth II will be legal tender until, according to the information of the Bank of England, they will not be worn out or damaged. This decision was made by members of the royal family, guided by the minimization of the environmental and financial consequences of the change of the monarch.
