The new NBU coin is dedicated to granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country for EU membership
Becoming a member of the European Union is a long-term desire of Ukraine and millions of Ukrainians. And no matter how pathetic it may sound, we have already embarked on this path and will not turn off it. On June 23, 2022, Ukraine received the status of a candidate country for EU membership. And just a few days ago, the National Bank announced the introduction of a new commemorative coin dedicated to this historical event into circulation.
I hope that soon a new commemorative coin will be available on Violity in the subsection “Coins of Ukraine. Medals and tokens of the NBU of Ukraine".
And what does the new one look like? You can view it on the official NBU Facebook page, where I came across this news.
The commemorative coin was created based on a sketch by artists Vladimir Taran, Alexander Kharuk, Sergey Kharuk. Its obverse is decorated with a mosaic, which is located near the image of the European continent with the outlines of the borders of Ukraine, the inscriptions "Return Home" and "Ukraine". The reverse depicts a map of Ukraine, stylized with a national embroidery ornament, against the background of stars, symbolizing the peoples of Europe in unity.
These are two coins with different denominations – 10 and 5 hryvnias. The first will be made of 925 sterling silver, and the second will be made of nickel silver. Their circulation will also be different – 10-hryvnia coins will be issued up to 5,000 pieces, 5-hryvnia coins – up to 75,000 pieces.
The coin was presented by NBU Governor Andriy Pyshny and his Deputy Oleksiy Shaban during a meeting with Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis, EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Matti Maasikas and Deputy State Secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Anatoly Kutsevol.
