Violity makes it possible to purchase rare coins, such issuers that are known only to experienced numismatists. One of these coins is the ducat of the city of Simmern, which is located in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate and has less than 8,000 inhabitants.
The first mention of the city dates back to 1072, Simmern received city rights in 1330. In the Middle Ages, it was an important trade and craft center.
The presented ducat was minted in the reign of Richard, Count Palatine of Simmern-Spanheim in 1577. From an early age, Richard prepared himself for a spiritual career, received an appropriate education, served as a canon in Cologne, Bamberg. Strassburg cathedrals, three times tried to get out as a bishop.
Having inherited Zimmern, he became a secular ruler and converted to Lutheranism. The possession was not rich, Richard experienced constant financial difficulties, as a result of which the issue of coins from precious metals was limited. As a result, the ducat is rare and of great interest to collectors. The obverse depicts a palatine in armor with a titular in a circle,
on the reverse - the coat of arms of the city of Simmern and an inscription informing about the new gold coin of this city.
