In Lviv, a stodol of the century before last was restored
In the ethnographic museum complex Shevchenkovsky Hay in Lviv, the roof of a stodol from the second half of the 19th century was restored. Once this building for storing crops stood in the village of Libohora, then it was transferred to an open-air museum. 30 years ago, the building was renovated: the master, referring to the original technology, manually updated the roof.
Today, the former stodol is a repository of individual museum exhibits, and this is one of the reasons why it was necessary to carry out restoration work again. The war did not prevent this, and in June of this year they finally took up the roof. And it all started with the project "Buy a gontin - vryatu stodolu", within the framework of which everyone could make a financial contribution to the restoration. The museum received part of the money from several companies, part from the sale of entrance tickets.
The work took a long time, since about 49 thousand small roofing boards had to be laid in the process of covering. The surface was covered with crude oil, which was previously used to protect the material. Each plank lies on top of another plank, covering most of it. The formed double layer of the roof does not allow water to pass through, and the roof does not rot. Museum staff say with confidence that the stodol in this form will last at least another 30 years.
