In the western part of the Netherlands is the province of North Holland, the largest city of which is the capital of the country – Amsterdam. However, this state is not famous only for Amsterdam. There are other cities here, not so large, but very cozy. Among them is Herhugovard, which is located north of the capital. Once upon a time, in the Middle Ages, this territory was occupied by a swamp. As a result of peat extraction, a large lake appeared here, which was drained in the XVII century and agricultural land was created in its place. A small town was built, which recently, at the beginning of this year, merged with the community of Langedijk – both settlements formed a new community of Dijk en Ward. In these photos we can see how Herhugovard looked more than a hundred years ago. To add antique pictures to your collection, follow the link.
