The country of Zimbabwe is a former colony of Great Britain, which was known as Southern Rhodesia. Approximately in the XI century, the first state was formed here, which developed before the arrival of British colonists. In the XIX century, there was active resistance to colonialists, but mercenary troops brutally suppressed all uprisings. The technological superiority of the invaders gave a huge advantage, thanks to which they managed to conquer the indigenous population. When, after the Second World War, the colonial policy of the empire began to collapse, the government of Southern Rhodesia began to demand that the country be granted full independence. Even when the Prime Minister of this African state, Ian Smith, announced that Rhodesia had become a republic, the world did not react to the statement in any way. It was only in 1980 that Rhodesia gained independence, and today it is called Zimbabwe. These pictures were taken in the 1960s, buy more interesting photos on Violity.
