Scientists have figured out what the Egyptians painted socks

Residents of ancient Egypt loved bright colors in their clothes. This was established by researchers from the British Museum using the non-invasive method.

Scientists were able to restore the original appearance of a children's wool sock, which belongs to the late Roman period in the history of ancient Egypt.

Egyptians extracted paint from madder (red), woad (blue) and resedy (yellow).

"It was interesting to discover that different colored stripes on a child’s sock found in Egypt were created using a combination of only three natural dyes," said Joanne Dyer, a museum employee.
