Auction house Sotheby's will hold its August auction with an unusual lot. The classic Porsche SUV will go under the hammer.

This car was sold to a Porsche-Volkswagen distributor in the spring of 1956. The appearance as a lot at the auction was preceded by a high-quality restoration. Among other things, this is painting in the statutory for the German army of the 1950s dark green body color, upholstery with green material for the seats, equipment with a tarpaulin removable top and soft doors of the same material.

On the technical side, the SUV is equipped with a 1.5-liter 50-horsepower engine with a 5-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive.

In addition to the car, the seller is willing to sell a complete set of documents and a factory set of tools.

It is noted that the rare Porsche 597 Jagdwagen is the fifth prototype of the German automaker, which was produced from January 1954 to December 1955. In total, 71 SUVs of this type rolled off the assembly line. Less than 50 cars have survived to this day.

At one time, the company created 22 prototypes of such SUVs. Some models had propellers and oars. This was due to the fact that Porsche planned to conclude a contract with the German army for the supply of such vehicles. But, despite the impressive performance, the choice fell on the DKW Munga from Auto Union.

A broken military contract did not stop Porsche from offering its SUV to foreign military forces. In part, it was customers from other countries that became the reason for the unspoken name - “hunting car”.
